Big Sur and a Big God

I am currently on my 3rd week (JEMS week) here at the Herm, but I have to catch up on what went down last week.

Week 2 was wonderful, of course. I had 1st and 2nd grade with a small group of 5 girls: Bella, Ella, Katia, Ava and Anya. Although my patience was tested many a times, these girls were some of the sweetest little girls I have ever had. The week ended in a big group hug, a couple of missing teeth grins ( I run into that at the elderly home, but these kind are kinda WAY cuter) and a dozen or so "come back next summer, Kricket"s. I love 1st and 2nd!

Anyways, with a rowdy group of little ones, I could not wait for the weekend! I needed a day off like nobody's business. Our staff counselors planned a trip to Big Sur and I was looking forward to hanging out with people of all departments at the Conference Center. However, I ended up just getting in a car with my lovely friend, Christian Sweeney and another AMATA counselor/new friend, Kealy! The 3 of us had a blast as we took our time along Cabrillo Highway. We made a pit stop at a farmers market where we bought lots of fruit and then made another spot at the River Inn Motel like I did with the DC crew last summer! It was great.

I think the best part about the trip was experiencing the drive. I don't know how many of you have driven down the coast from Santa Cruz to Big Sur, but let me tell you...it is breathtaking. Christian, Kealy and I had time to just share our hearts with one another about camp and we were even quiet at points where we just listened to worship music. We were speechless while driving because the beauty was overwhelming. The water was turquoise blue, the skies were clear, the grass was green and the flowers were a majestic gold, yellow and orange. All the while, we were thinking how amazing God was. We serve a Big God and we got to experience His beauty in Big Sur.

As for me, I want to continue to build my house on the foundation that is Christ until I am reunited with Him. I cannot wait to stare upon God's glory as it reflects off of eternity's shores. For now, the beauty of Big Sur gives me a hope that more beautiful things are to come.
